About Us

Nexus-Energía-Movilidad is an initiative lead by the Kühne Professorial Chair in Logistics at Universidad de los Andes.

Since 2020 we belong to the Energy Hub for Latin America and the Caribbean as University Network members (IDB) and for the last 5 years we have been developing aquatic mobility projects in Colombia’s remote regions.

Kühne Chair of Logistics at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, honorary professor of Maritime Geography at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, Germany, leader of the global port performance research network (PPRN) and vice-president of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME). Director and research associate at the Hapag-Lloyd Center for Shipping and Global Logistics (CSGL), Kühne Logistics University (KLU), board member of the International Association of Maritime Economists, member of the WCTRS Special Interest Group - Intermodal Freight, and associate member of Porteconomics.
His research focuses on transport, economic geography, maritime economics and energy efficiency with particular interests in international trade, transport geography, transport costs, sustainable mobility strategies, maritime transport networks and connectivity, inland waterways and inland navigation policy. Currently, a specific focus is related to the measurement of energy, emissions and water footprints in ports. The Kühne Logistics Chair is co-funded by the Kühne Foundation.

Economist graduated from Universidad del Salvador, Argentina, MSc in Management and Economics of Public Services from Universidad Carlos III - Madrid and University of Paris X, and PhD in Economics from Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina.

Ricardo is currently Director of the Caribbean Research Institute, CSA and co-director of the Kühne Chair in Logistics, School of Management, Universidad de los Andes, Colombia.

Previously, he was Senior Economic Affairs Officer, Regional Expert on Infrastructure and Ports, at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Santiago de Chile Branch, dedicated to maritime, infrastructure and transport issues for the entire LAC region.

He has worked professionally or academically in 30 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean for 35 years, as well as in other countries in Europe and Asia. Professional career: both in the private sector with local and foreign companies and in the public sector with international organisations and the Argentinean Federal Government.

Professional orientation: Currently working in the areas of Maritime Economics; Infrastructure and Transport Economics.

Professional in business administration and technologist in business management. She has 7 years of experience in the planning, operational and financial execution of research projects. Her work is oriented to the formulation of projects focused on nautical electromobility and renewable energies that generate quantifiable social/environmental impacts and that promote benefits in rural areas of Colombia and that include partnerships with strategic actors.

Diana has work and research interests related to sustainable resource management and its interrelation with technological, environmental, economic, social and political aspects. She has experience in working with communities - especially in the Colombian Pacific - supporting processes of adoption of technological innovations that result in the strengthening of quality of life, productive activities and reduction of environmental impacts.

In addition, she has 10 years of experience in research platform management, as well as extensive experience in delivering reports for international accreditation agencies and higher education measurement rankings.

Luisa is an Industrial Engineer from the National University of Colombia - Manizales, with a Graduate-Certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and she is finishing her thesis to obtain a Master's degree in Transportation Engineering at the National University of Colombia. Currently, she works as an associate researcher at the Kühne Professor of Logistics Chair at the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.

Luisa has 10 years of experience in applied logistics research with an emphasis on transportation and ports at a national and international level. Before joining the Kuhne Professor of Logistics Chair, Luisa worked for 5 years at Empresa Multimodal S.A.S., a consulting firm specialized in ports, maritime transport, and infrastructure. During this time she developed Port Master Plans, concession requests, capacity calculation, and formulation of public policies and port governance, for ports and maritime authorities all around Latin America.

As a researcher, Luisa works on energy efficiency projects, supply chain optimization, and sustainability, identifying best practices and future requirements in the supply chain and establishing methodological frameworks to describe the environmental performance of logistics sites and terminals. She also works on the identification of cascade effects in the configuration of maritime transport routes and services.

ALEJANDRA GÓMEZ PAZ

PhD in Transport UPM, Master in Port Engineering CEDEX and UBA, Civil Engineer UCA. His line of research focuses on the dynamism of connectivity between regions and the factors that condition it -trade, freight, infrastructure, ship dimensions and new technologies, service configuration and commercial practices-. She is currently a member of the Khüne Chair at UniAndes.

She is currently a Senior Consultant at the Infrastructure and Logistics Unit of ECLAC. She has contributed to high impact publications: ECLAC, ESCAP, UNCTAD, PIANC, JST, MPM and IAME. She currently teaches in the Specialisation in Port Engineering at the UBA, has taught at the UCA, UTN, UCU, Di Tella, and has directed Master Thesis in Urban Economy.

In her 20 years of experience she has cooperated for multiple governments and industries in America, Europe and Asia, in the development of projects with a vision on regional integration, contributing to the definition of challenges, policies and innovative, flexible and sustainable solutions.

Environmental Engineer from the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas in Bogotá and degree validated by the Polytechnic School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ in Brazil. He did his master's degree in Civil Engineering, with a scholarship from the PRH-02 programme of Petrobras and Colfuturo, together with the Laboratory of Computational Methods in Engineering - LAMCE of the Institute of Engineering Research - COPPE-UFRJ, Brazil; he is currently a PhD candidate in Energy and Environmental Planning at COPPE-UFRJ with support from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development - CNPq of Brazil.

Mauricio has eight years of research experience in strategic planning focused on the energy sector and three years in engineering consultancy. His research focuses on spatial modelling, geoprocessing and multi-criteria and integrated analysis for sustainability and decision making on energy projects. He is an active peer-reviewer for Elsevier, is part of the research team of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Environment - LIMA, COPPE and has been Research Fellow at the Centro de Pesquisas de Energia Elétrica - CEPEL, Eletrobras.

Senior Member of the IEEE with a Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (PUJ), Bogotá, Colombia. He received his Master's and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ohio State University in 2002 and 2006, respectively. In 2007 he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Universidad de los Andes (UAndes), Bogotá, Colombia as Assistant Professor. In 2008, he received the Distinguished Professor Award from the Faculty of Engineering.

He is currently a Senior Lecturer, director of the research group on control and automation systems (GIAP, UAndes), and associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology for the Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy. On the other hand, he was a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) in 2014 and was president of the IEEE CSS, Colombia for the period 2011-2013.

He has published more than 30 articles in magazines, 70 articles in international conferences and 5 book chapters. He was co-advisor of the best European doctoral thesis in the area of ​​control systems in 2017, and  co-author of the best work of ISA Transactions, 2018. He has been a member of committees of several international conferences such as IEEE CDC 2011 and IFAC NOLCOS 2016, and is part of the editorial board of some magazines such as artificial intelligence research. His current research interests include: hierarchical and distributed optimization methods using bioinspired methods and theoretical game techniques for dynamic resource allocation problems, especially in energy, water, agriculture, and transportation.

Senior Member of the IEEE with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Colombian School of Engineering, Bogotá, and a Master's and PhD from the University of Chile in 2003 and 2010, respectively. In 2010 he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile as an associate researcher. In 2014, he was promoted as Director of the Energy Center of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Chile, leading his transition from the academic initiative to the Faculty's formal research center in 2015. He is currently a visiting professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia, member of the research group on energy and power (PE), and promoted as associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid.

Furthermore, since 2012 he has been a member of the Steering Committee of the Microgrid Symposiums series, member of academic committees of various conferences (Solar World Congres 2019, ChileCON 2017, T&D PES LA, etc.), and associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy . He has published more than 20 journal articles, 40 conference articles, 4 book chapters and is co-author of 5 books. Guillermo has developed solutions for the planning and operation of electrical systems, renewable energy, distributed generation, micro grids and regulation, proposing the framework for the regulation of Distributed Generation in Chile, among others. He has led different projects based on distributed generation and microgrid solutions in Chile, Mexico and Colombia.
