Gordon Wilmsmeier holds the Kühne Chair of Logistics at the Faculty of Management of the Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia. He is also Director of the Hapag-Lloyd Centre for Shipping and Global Logistics (CSGL) at Kühne Logistics University (KLU), Hamburg, Germany.

Gordon is an honorary professor of Maritime Geography at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, Germany.

From 2011 to 2017, he worked as an Economic Affairs Officer in the Infrastructure Services Unit of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). Previously, he worked at the Transport Research Institute (TRI) at Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland (2007-2011) and as a consultant for ECLAC-UN, UNCTAD, UN-OHRLLS, the World Bank, Adelphi Research, JICA, IDB, CAF, and OAS.

Gordon received a PhD in Geography from the University of Osnabrück and graduated as a geographer from the Technische Universität Dresden, Germany.

Wilmsmeier’s research focuses on the geography and economics of maritime transport, port economics and inland navigation issues. His recent projects focus on port governance, sustainable port development, energy transition, competition in the liner shipping market, digitalisation and technology in supply chains, as well as nautical electromobility. In 2023, his research group launched the first electric school boat on the Pacific coast of Colombia.

He has published more than 100 book chapters, journal articles, institutional publications and working papers. His most recent books include Geographies of Maritime Transport and Maritime Mobilities. In 2022, his work on climate change adaptation was cited in the IPCC report.

He is the leader of the global research network on port performance (PPRN), a member of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME), a member of the Transport and Geography Commission of the International Geographical Union (IGU), a member of the Board of Directors of the Conecta Logística Foundation, Chile, a member of the WCTRS Special Interest Group – Intermodal Freight, and an associate member of PortEconomics.

Economist graduated from the University of Salvador, Argentina; MSc in Economics and Public Services Management from Carlos III University – Madrid and Paris X University, and PhD in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina.

He is currently co-director of the Kühne Chair of Logistics, Faculty of Administration, University of the Andes, Colombia.

Previously, he was Senior Economic Affairs Officer and Regional Expert on Infrastructure and Ports at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Santiago, Chile, where he focused on maritime, infrastructure and transport issues for the entire LAC region. He also served as Director of the Caribbean Research Institute, CSA.

He has worked professionally or academically in 32 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean for 35 years, as well as in other countries in Europe and Asia. Professional career: both in the private sector with local and foreign companies and in the public sector with international organisations and the Argentine Federal Government.

Professional focus: Maritime Economics; Infrastructure and Transport Economics.

A senior Industrial Engineering student at Universidad Central, interested in process improvement, automation, and the use of digital tools, artificial intelligence, and the Microsoft 365 ecosystem to work more efficiently. Her degree option focused on Lean Six Sigma, and she is currently preparing to obtain Yellow, Green, and Black Belt certifications from the Opex Leader Academy.

She currently works as a project administrative assistant at the Kühne Chair of Logistics at the University of the Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, where she provides operational support for academic and administrative activities. Her role includes assisting with organizational tasks, administrative follow-up, and support in the execution of processes, ensuring the proper flow of information and the completion of assigned activities.

She completed her internship at Enel Colombia S.A. E.S.P., where she participated in operational and monitoring activities that strengthened her skills in organization, analysis, and continuous improvement. She has also worked in the administrative and accounting areas at Valortis S.A.S., Outsourcing Contable Marcela Gómez, in the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research and Creation (Oficina Centros Vice), and has participated in digital marketing and visual innovation initiatives at Cipher Labs, which has allowed her to develop a broad and adaptable vision.

He considers himself a proactive person, willing to learn, explore new tools, and continue to grow in the field of projects and processes.

Industrial Engineer with master’s degrees in Administration (National University of Colombia) and Supply Chain Management (University of the Andes). She has experience in research on sustainability, electric mobility, and port energy efficiency.

She is currently a PhD student in Administration at the University of the Andes, where she focuses her research interests on electromobility, especially in the energy transition of rural and coastal areas.

She works as a Research Associate at the Kühne Professorial Chair in Logistics at the University of the Andes, where she has participated in projects with various public and private entities. Among these, initiatives in nautical electromobility aimed at improving connectivity and quality of life in remote coastal communities on the Colombian Pacific coast stand out.

She has designed and developed interactive dashboards in Power BI focused on the analysis of maritime transport and port activity, including studies on the performance of ports in Latin America, the Caribbean and Greece. In addition, she has collaborated on port integrity analysis projects, contributing to strengthening transparency in the sector.

She has more than five years of experience as a university lecturer and has participated in social research projects focused on productive initiatives in rural communities.

Her research interests focus on the sustainable management of resources within supply chains, promoting strategies that reduce environmental impact and generate social value in the territories where they are implemented.

Professional in Business Administration and Business Management Technologist. She has nine years of experience in the planning, coordination, operational and financial execution of research projects. Her work focuses on the formulation of initiatives with measurable social and environmental impacts that strengthen development in rural areas of Colombia and build partnerships with strategic actors.

Diana’s professional and research interests relate to sustainable resource management and its link to technological, environmental, economic, social and political dimensions. She has experience working with communities, especially in the Colombian Pacific, supporting processes for the adoption of technological innovations aimed at improving quality of life, strengthening productive activities and reducing environmental impacts.

She is currently completing her master’s degree in International Tourism Development at the Technische Hochschule Deggendorf in Germany and works as an associate project manager at the Hapag-Lloyd Centre for Shipping and Global Logistics (CSGL).

In addition, she has ten years of experience in managing research platforms, as well as in preparing reports for international accreditation agencies and higher education measurement rankings.

Research Associate at the University of the Andes. Civil Engineer from the National University of Colombia. Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the Andes, Bogotá, and Master’s Degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Queensland, Australia.

With more than 15 years of experience in the area of transport and infrastructure services, specifically in maritime and river transport and ports, in entities such as the National Planning Department (DNP), the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), the World Bank and the University of the Andes. He was a lecturer in postgraduate programmes at the Externado University of Colombia and a consultant for the World Bank.

In addition to research on sustainability methodologies for the port industry, he has conducted research on energy transition and transport decarbonisation at the University of Queensland and in the GiroZero project on the decarbonisation of freight transport in Colombia.

His research interests include maritime economics, new energies such as hydrogen, transport decarbonisation and the circular economy in infrastructure.

Natalia has bachelor’s degrees in Naval Sciences and Physical Oceanography, and a master’s degree in Oceanography from the Naval Academy “Almirante Padilla.” She is currently pursuing a PhD in Maritime Affairs at the World Maritime University, focusing on sustainable development of inland waterway transport. Natalia started her career as a Navy officer in the Colombian Navy. She then worked as an adviser and surveyor for the Colombian Maritime Administration. Currently, she is a Research Assistant for the EU Horizon Seanergy project, dedicated to facilitating the transition of ports towards cleaner energy sources, reinforcing his commitment to sustainable port operations. Her work highlights her commitment to sustainable port operations and environmental sustainability in the maritime industry.

PhD in Transport from UPM, Master in Port Engineering from CEDEX and UBA, Civil Engineer from UCA. His research focuses on the dynamics of connectivity between regions and the factors that influence it—such as trade, freight, infrastructure, ship dimensions, new technologies, service configuration, and commercial practices. He is currently a member of the Khüne Chair at UniAndes.

She is presently a Senior Consultant at the Infrastructure and Logistics Unit of ECLAC. She has contributed to high-impact publications including ECLAC, ESCAP, UNCTAD, PIANC, JST, MPM, and IAME. She currently teaches in the Specialisation in Port Engineering at UBA, has lectured at UCA, UTN, UCU, Di Tella, and has supervised Master’s Theses in Urban Economics.

With 20 years of experience, he has collaborated with multiple governments and industries across America, Europe, and Asia, developing projects aimed at regional integration and contributing to the identification of challenges, policies, and innovative, flexible, and sustainable solutions.

PhD in Engineering Systems from the University of Chile (2020).

Before joining the KLU, Cristiam worked in the GiroZero Project with Cardiff University in the UK and University of Andes in Colombia. GiroZero is a project funded of the UK Pact programme of the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

The project seeks to accelerate vehicle renewal and technologies to reduce the miles run, fuel consumed, and CO2 emitted by vehicles operating within the Colombian road freight transport sector.

During his Ph.D. studies, he was awarded The Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarship from Government of Canada to do his doctoral internship in the prestigious Interuniversity Center for research in Entrepreneurial Networks, Logistics and Transportation (CIRRELT) in the École Polytechnique de Montréal-Canada, developing cutting-edge solution methods and algorithms for highly combinatorial and complex models.

PhD Candidate at Kuehne Logistics University. Mechanical Engineer from Universidad Nacional de Colombia with a Magister Science degree in Industrial Engineering from ICESI and GCLOG Certificate in Supply Chain Management at MIT.

He has 19 years of work experience in freight transportation in the private sector and public sector. He worked as transport planning specialist, project manager, operations manager and Senior Consultant for the National Planning Department (DNP) with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Also, he has developed freelance logistics and sustainable freight transportation projects with multilateral banking such as the World Bank for Bolivia, with the IDB for Peru, CAF for Panamá, and ICLEI for Colombia.
